Vision

I want you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine I placed an acorn in your hands. You can look at it, touch it, and really feel it, as you roll it around with your fingers. Are you there with me? Now I want to ask you a question, what do you see? An acorn? Fair enough, but what do you see when you look at the acorn, what is your vision?

An oak tree? Good we are getting somewhere. What else do you see? A forest? Yes, keep going. Wood? Yes, but with your minds eye, what is the deepest vision you have for this precious acorn? Furniture? Yes, go further.

New homes, schools, and churches. communities, that raise families and take care of each other. They lead by the example they set and by choosing to live by this example they have the power to change the whole world!

Now we are getting somewhere.

It was once said, “Where there is no vision people perish”.

Now, imagine you are in your office and you see a person lying on your table ready to get adjusted.  What do you see?

Is it just a person? Or is this person some ones mother, father, or son?

Do they have a family? Do they have friends and belong to a community?

The adjustment you give has the power to improve the health and wellness of this person lying on your table, making them a better mother, allowing for her children to be better adults and leaders for their community. Making it now possible for your community to change the world!

You see how powerful you are and the depth of your responsibility as a chiropractor.
The idea of chiropractic or the “Big Idea” has never changed, it was abandoned for insurance adjusting codes and spinal decompression. We have unintentionally reduced ourselves to back pain therapist and by doing so our communities have become some of the sickest on the planet.

Kids are on psychotropic drugs and inhalers, and handfuls of medications and your town is still running out to get the H1N1 swine flu shot. While too many chiropractors are going to insurance seminars or evaluating the demographics of their practice, our communities rot like a bushel of old fruit. Out of fear your family, friends and neighbors run out and get drugs and surgery and vaccinated for microbes that have existed for thousands of years and still they get sicker while too many in this profession are strapping people to a spinal decompression device or rubbing their sore muscles and firing up the diathermy! Oh, I just dated myself. Firing up the laser! Telling patients they can get rid of their aches and pains and their insurance will cover everything, as they strategize new and convoluted ways to extract as much as possible from the insurance companies.

How’s that working these days?

“Without vision, people perish”.

Who’s perishing? We all are, and it’s about high time we as chiropractors stop worrying about what others think of us and start thinking about what we think of us! It’s time we find a way and not excuses!

This might be a tall order for some and the self-confidence (your philosophy) as well as your certainty (your science) might need a big boost. So, today go online and order two books.
First, go to Google and type in Dr Fred Barge, One Cause One Cure. This is the philosophy that will give you the desire to tell the truth. If your thinking, who is Dr Fred Barge, that’s ok, it is one of the reasons you only saw the acorn and chances are it’s not your fault, so just buy the book. Second book, The 14 foundational premises for the scientific and philosophical validation of the chiropractic wellness by Dr James Chestnut. This is your science and it will give you the strength to tell the truth. If your asking who Dr James Chestnut is, chances are you don’t have internet connection so ask your wife or a friend to do it for you.

Now, there is something else. When the books arrive you will have to Read Them!

I encourage you to read out of them everyday for a year.

Last year was the best year I ever had in practice! It was awesome! I laughed, hugged and cried more last year in practice then I did in all 20 plus years preceding.

I adjusted over 500 people in a day more times than ever before and feel more alive, excited and optimistic in the future of the chiropractic profession than ever before. I tell you this to encourage all who are afraid, just start telling the true philosophy of chiropractic as presented by Dr Fred Barge and mix it up with some of the science by Dr James Chestnut and watch your life and the lives of those you serve vibrate.

Remember the acorn the next time you place your hands on a mother. Feel how sacred that moment is and how much responsibility you have. Even if she doesn’t get it fully, please tell me you do.
That mother has the ability to change the world by what you do today. Do yourself proud and make every adjustment count.

Chances are DD and BJ are watching you.
